Beatriz Prieto is a sophomore foreign exchange student living with Jeb and Amy Casazza as her host parents and Aubrey Casazza as her host sister. In the fall she managed volleyball and participated in XC. She is an only child who lives with her parents in Spain. She enjoys school and hanging with her friend in America and in Spain.

After school, some days she works on her basketball abilities, and sometimes she studies for school. In Spain on the weekends Beatriz likes to play basketball games and spend time with her family and friends playing games or watching movies.

She plans on attending college in Spain and studying psychology. She wants to be a psychologist so she can know about people's problems and help them. If she can't be a psychologist, she would like to be a teacher and help kids.

Eureka, a small little town in Montana, presented Beatriz with a cultural shock. Accustomed to living in a larger city in Spain, the transition to a small town was initially challenging. However, the general kindness of the community quickly made her feel at home. Beatriz appreciated the genuine interest people showed in getting to know her, making her feel welcome throughout the school year. The language barrier has also been a struggle for her because she sometimes cannot understand what people are saying to her or express herself correctly.

Beatriz sees this experience as an opportunity to grow and emerge as a better person and become more confident and independent.

Despite the cultural differences, she expresses genuine contentment with life in Eureka. She says that she likes how nice everyone is and that they all know each other and get along for the most part. She also likes the beautiful landscapes that this state offers.

She would like to thank her family for always supporting her and giving her this opportunity.  She would also like to thank herself for being brave enough to come over to this country alone without knowing anything about the town and culture and grow herself as a person.

Aubrey Casazza, a sophomore at LCHS, said, “It is very nice having Beatriz around, she is fun to be around and fits in well. It is nice having another ‘sister’ since my other siblings are older.”

Jeb Casazza said, “She’s a really good person, she’s a pleasure to have around the house. She fits in like another family member and loves to play games with us and help with the chores as well which is always helpful.”
