The Day in the Life of a Cheerleader
October 12, 2023
By: Adriana Granados
My name is Adriana Granados, and I am a senior cheerleader on The Varsity Eureka Lions Cheer Team.
I start my day by waking up at 6:00 am and taking a shower. After my shower, I wake up my mother and my siblings. Once I have done that, I go to my room and look for something to wear for the day and help my sisters get ready for school as well. After everyone is ready and dressed, my mother takes us to school. She drops off my sisters first at the middle school, and then my brothers and I.
Once in school, for the first few minutes, I go talk to my friends for a little bit and then go to class. Depending on the day, there are 3 different block colored days and schedules. It was the 12th of October, a white day schedule, and it was Pink Night for the Volleyball team.
My first few classes were second, third, PAW, and fourth. After fourth it’s lunch and I usually get the school lunch and eat with my brother Four, and my friends in the art room. My day went by with a breeze during those classes. However, returning from lunch during sixth period, I realized what day it was and that I had a lot to do.
During that period, it was my Sports Literature class (which is the class I am writing this article for). I was writing about “The Battle of The Border” (You should read that by the way). While I was writing that article, I was spacing off as I normally do in that class. And I realized that after sixth I have to do a Forum presentation in seventh, and I have to leave early to get ready to help with concessions. I was thinking about how badly the Forum would go. And I forgot about my article and had to make it look like I was doing something so I opened up a typing practice site to make it seem like I was writing.
After sixth, it was time for seventh period and all my nervousness came back and I was trying to lose my anxiety in sixth. So I go in and Mr. Day (the Choir and Band Director/Teacher) said that we have a bit of time to practice before we have to perform in front of the class. I am in Chamber Ensemble Group Two, and the people in that group with me are Caleb Ravitch, Luke Van Glider, Quincy Rhodes, Brayden Pragle, and Sage Kalwara. We had a bit of time to practice but not much because after we performed I had to leave to go do concessions. The performance was alright. There was room for improvement, but I couldn’t stay to listen. I had to change into my pink wear for the pink game.
The reason why I was doing concessions was because I am a part of the Career Club, and I was working with them to earn some money for the club. When I was working at the concession stand, it was during the C team’s match. After that match, I had to go meet with the Cheer Team in the Commons, start stretching, and get ready to cheer for the Varsity Game. The Cheer Team was in charge of the 50/50 raffle and had to walk around asking for some donations.
The Lady Lions were up against The Mission Bulldogs, and we beat them 25-18, 25-20, 26-28, 26-24. The Lady Lions played very well, and the student section was active like it usually was. Everything was going very well, and then it didn’t. Our cheer captain, Liberty, wasn't doing too well and had to step out to recover, and as a last minute result our Coach Danielle had me step in and take over for her. From that part, until the end of the game I was in charge of the Team and calling the cheers. I never had any experience in doing any of that. Especially since this was my second season, I had no clue what I was doing but I tried my best to manage in the quickest way possible.
In the end everything went well. Our ladies beat the Bulldogs, and the Cheer team did well. We teamed out and everyone went to go change and what not. After the game, I get picked by my mom and taken home. I tell my family about major details about the game and after I leave to go to my room, change out of my uniform and go to bed at just before midnight.
