Lions Football Players Break Records

The Lions defeated the Whitehall Trojans 45-7 on senior night last Friday, October 13, 2023. This moved the Lions record to 7-1 on the season.
Along with their victory, the Lion Football team broke a couple of long standing school records against Whitehall. AJ Truman broke the school record of single game passing yards that was set by his second cousin Jason Truman in 1991. That same game 32 years ago Jeb Casazza also set the single game record for receiving yards which Tristan Butts also broke against the Trojans. In that game Jason tossed the ball for 303 yards and Casazza caught a total of 193 of those yards.
Last Friday against Whitehall AJ Truman threw for 339 yards breaking the previous record by 36 yards. Tristan Butts was the recipient of the majority of Truman’s passing by hauling in 223 yards on 4 receptions. After his first reception of the game which was a 54 yard touchdown Butts also set the single season receiving yards record which was set by Austin Sartori with 620 yards in 2019. Butts now has 853 yards with possible playoff games to continue to add onto the record. AJ Truman threw for four passing touchdowns against the Trojans; Butts caught three of these thus breaking another record of single season receiving touchdown record shared by Brenton Pluid in 2017 and Austin Sartori in 2019. These two shared the record at 9 touchdowns. Butts has now totaled 11 on the season with the playoffs still to come.
“It was good to have a bounce back game after a tough loss to Florence, this game got us back on track to achieve our goals,” said AJ Truman.
“It was a great last home game under the lights, I have enjoyed these four years of football and I am glad to be able to be fortunate enough to have a good last game in front of these fans,” said Butts.
Although the Lions played their last Friday night home game, the Lions will have at least one more home game for the playoffs.
