Homecoming in Eureka, Montana, is a very special and great tradition that has been going on for many years. It is put together by the school principal Carey Lucey, Superintendent Joel Graves, and years of tradition.
Homecoming is always on a Friday and starts shortly after the school year begins. The festivities start with a big breakfast for all the varsity athletes that attend Lincoln County High School (LCHS).
Then LCHS students all hop on buses and travel to different parts of Eureka highways and do community service by picking up trash and helping out the community.
Once that gets done around 9:55, students will head to the football field (gymnasium for unfavorable conditions) and have their prep rally at approximately 10. The prep rally finishes around 12 and everyone goes to lunch until 12:30, and during that time all the sports players and teams are preparing for their parade. Athletes will meet at the Historical Village at the south side of town at the end of main street. All of the players and athletes get on firetrucks or ambulances to sit on each side. Then the parade trucks and teams travel through town from the south side of town and go all the way down main street Dewey Avenue; during this time the players can be seen throwing candy to the younger generations of the Lincoln County Lions.
Afterwards everyone returns back to the high school where they dismount the service vehicles so the Junior Varsity Football players can go get ready for their two pm kickoff.
All of the people in the school are out for the day and are free to go home. The varsity football players are waiting for the varsity game and are amped up for one of the biggest games of the year against Western B rival Thompson Falls.
The volleyball girls have a C-squad, Junior Varsity, and Varsity game against Plains the day after homecoming, which the Lady Lions are looking forward to competing against. Obviously LCHS expects to be victorious.
The Lions have a great student council. The esteemed leaders are all in charge of planning and setting up homecoming with themes for the games, the homecoming dress up days, the parade, and the homecoming dance. These activities are the most important part of homecoming to display school spirit and spread the word in a way around the town about the upcoming event. Blake Lancaster is the student council president and conducts everyone through everything and helps through whatever the council needs.
A main part of homecoming is all of the class royalty nominees and winners. The princess and prince candidates picked before the football game on Friday. As the king and queen are decided at halftime of the football game. Those candidates are Quinn Persson for freshman prince, Joe Sieler for sophomore prince, and Luke VanGilder for junior prince. Freshman princess is Tyrone Cook, sophomore princess is Kamealani Seward, and junior princess is Lizzie VanNess. The King candidates are Canon Pearson, Tristan Butts, Caleb Ratvitch ( All Seniors). Queen candidates include Lucia Schermerhorn, Hayden Lemer, and Shyanne Miller (all seniors).
The people of school and all of the people love homecoming and have a great time for it. Homecoming is an event to look forward to in Eureka.
