The Lady Lions are heading into mid-September with a record of 3-1, not including the Mission tip off tourney in late August.
The three match wins were against Arlee, Darby, and Libby. Arlee and Darby are in the Class B Western Division, while Libby is played in the Battle of the Kootenai competition.
Currently C-squad has a record of 0-2 and Junior Varsity has a record of 3-1 as well as Varsity. Florence and the Lady Lions put up a good fight on September 9th.
Florence was the only match the Lady Lions did not win. The game was in Florence last Saturday the 9th. All three Eureka teams played and put up a fight but did not win. The game went to four sets, Florence won the first set and the Lady Lions took the second set; Florence finished off the last two sets in close sets.
”I think we did really well but we can beat them next time,” junior setter Annie Vaughn said.
The four stat leaders of the game were freshman libero Sophie Vaughn in digs with 20, junior setter Hailey Judd led assists with 14, A. Vaughn led kills with 12, and junior outside hitter Kara Stanger led aces with five.
“I feel like it was a great game for us to see where our holes were,” Stanger commented.
The game really emphasized the Lady Lions holes in their defense and offense.
Fourth year head coach Todd Brouillette added, “I’m really glad we got to play them. Especially earlier in the season. The reason we were both glad to play on another is that we were both challenged and able to find weaknesses in our game. Both teams played really well and it was fun to be a part of. I look forward to playing them again in the postseason.”
The next time these two teams could match up would be at the Divisional Tournament.
The girls went right back into the gym for practice on Monday knowing exactly what to work on. The Lady Lions take on Troy Thursday the 14th, and Deer Lodge Saturday the 16th. Troy will be the Lions first conference game.
“We are on top of the conference,” Judd said.
The Lady Lions may be the big dogs of the conference and the runner up in the division. Florence and Loyola are two challenging teams in the division with Lincoln County. Florence has a record of 6-0, and Loyola is 2-1.
Eureka will host the post season divisionals tournament this year November 1st through the 3rd. The top three in our division will be off to the state tournament in Bozeman the following weekend!
