The LCHS football team “showed out” last Friday night. After suffering a tough loss to Florence last week, the Lions took their anger out on Whitehall winning 45-7. Quarterback AJ Truman passed for a school record 339. Tristan Butts hauled in 4 catches for a record setting 223 yards. Lion runners rushed for 217 yards; Josh Lambertson led with 64 rush yards. They had a total of 586 yards of offense and 7 touchdowns. The defense was stifling, only letting up 7 points; linebacker Jonus Holm led with 8 tackles. They travel to Anaconda this week. The Copperheads are 1-8 with their only win coming against Whitehall two weeks ago. The boys are confident and need to play good preparing for their first playoff game Saturday the 28th.

The cross country team went to the divisional level meet last Thursday and performed really well. Both the girls and boys placed third as a team; the girls headed into the meet ranked sixth and the boys moved up seven spots in the state rankings. Michael Pitman earned first team All-Conference with a ninth place finish. Aly Meester is an 8th grader who ran for the girls achieving a PR. Coach Gideon said River Traina was a much improved runner throughout the year, starting as the number seven runner on the team and finishing fourth in the divisional meet. The team raced in Thompson Falls 23 days before the meet and twelve of the fourteen runners to compete at both events improved this week. Coach Gideon said, “That's probably the most overall improvement between those two meets in the ten years I have coached.” The state tournament will be held next Saturday at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell.

The volleyball team played Thompson Falls, Mission, and Superior, winning all three matches in four sets. This week they played Stillwater Christian winning in five, Plains winning in 3, and Thompson Falls in 4 sets. The team sports a 16-1 record. Next week is the district tournament in Plains. The Lions head into the tournament as the one seed, not losing a single match to a conference the entire season. The Lions have overcome some adversity this season with senior leader Lucia Schermerhorn tearing her ACL. She has been filled in with success receiving help from sisters Annie and Sophie Vaughn moving from North Dakota this year. The addition of these two has added great depth to the team and gives for more versatile rotations and defenses.
