Lions Football vs Whitehall, Senior Night
October 14, 2023
By:Tristan Libby
This week, on Friday, October 13, the Lions are taking on the Whitehall Trojans in a conference matchup. The Lions are on a one game losing streak after their last week loss to Florence. The Lions are very hungry for another conference win and a bounce back win against the Trojans for their last home game of the regular season.
The Whitehall Trojans have yet to win a conference game this year and are looking to win their first against the Lions. The Trojans don’t have a great look on winning though, as the Lions are 6-1, only losing to the #1 ranked team in Montana.
The Lions offense is looking really crisp right now and is looking to not let up on the Trojans and add another statement win to their record.
This game is also senior night. That means all seniors get recognition for it being their last time to play at home as a Lion.
This year the Lions have 15 seniors in Football: Braden Cazassa, Tristan Butts, AJ Truman, Blake Lancaster, Tyson Budree, Jonus Holm, Riley Hume, Jake Lane, Caden Pecora, Sullivan Sartori, Blade Morgan, Michael Watters, Keenan McDole, Caleb Ravitch, and Talan Keller. Most of these players have been playing football with each other since they were in fifth grade, which makes their brotherhood stronger than ever on the field.
Sullivan Sartori has been playing football for four years as a Eureka Lion and is a two year starter at defensive back. He is one of the captains on the team, leading the team and being a great role model for the younger grades of football players. He is looking to be all state as a defensive back this year and is on a great path to do it. Sullivan says, “ These past 4 years have been a grind with my peers that have been along me since 5th grade football. We’ve won and lost a ton of games but this year is finally a chance to prove ourselves. One last chance to win it all with a group of people I see as another family.”
Jonus Holm is the starting center and middle linebacker and sometimes will play fullback. He is one of the most versatile players on the Lions being able to do almost anything. He is leading the Lions in tackles right now and looks to be an all state linebacker and go on to college to play football. Jonus said, “ Throughout my seasons with this team, I could never be more thankful for my coaches and teammates. All the work this team has put in will shine in state.”
Wesley Banks is a Junior this year and is looking forward to being the leader of Lions offensive line next year as three of the offensive linemen are graduating. As well as the defensive line. He is a very great lineman and looks to be the best in Montana next year. Wesley stated, “ I’m on a team of winners and I’m still a Junior. I get to lead the underclassmen this year and next. The seniors I looked up to have taught me so much and next year it will be my turn to do so.”
The Lions are looking for a win this week and next week to seal their standings in the playoffs. They are expected to win the next two games and the Lions are almost ready for a great playoff run towards winning the state championship.
