This Week in LCHS Sports

This Week at LCHS Sports Oct. 23 to Oct. 28th

By Tristan Libby

This week at LCHS was a very successful week for both girls volleyball and football. The girls volleyball team won the District Tournament, going undefeated against Thompson Falls Bluehawks twice and the Mission Bulldogs once. The football team won their first State Class B playoff game against the Huntley Project Red Devils.

The football team had their first playoff game versus the Huntley Project, beating the Red Devils 47-18 in a spectacular win. Caden Pecora led the team in rushing yards with 19 carries for 168 yards. AJ Truman threw for 135 yards on seven completions. Braden Casazza led the team in receiving yards with three receptions for 77 yards.

The Lions defense had a tough task of stopping the Red Devils from running the ball, which no team could do this season. However, the Lions held the Red Devils to 18 points after shutting down their run game. The Red Devils had to resort to throwing the ball, which they are not very good at. This led to multiple turnovers that the Lions took advantage of.

Tristan Butts had two interceptions embarrassing the Red Devils quarterback. Jonus Holm and Talan Keller were unblockable on defense, combining for 26 tackles making plays left and right.

The girls volleyball team went undefeated in Plains, beating every team. The St. Ignatius match was 3-0 in favor of the Lions. They went onto the semifinals playing Thompson Falls, beating them 3-1 and sealing their spot in the District Championship. The Lady Lions went up against Thompson Falls again after the Blue Hawks won their way into the championship against St. Ignatius 3-1. The Lady Lions beat the Thompson Falls Bluehawks 3-0 in the championship game to win districts and bring home a nice first place plaque.

Championship game stats for LCHS Lady Lions include the following: Sophie Vaughn, freshman libero, led the team in digs with 19. Her sister, Annie Vaughn, (junior setter/ outside hitter) led in assists with 23. Kara Stanger (junior outside hitter) led the team in kills by a large margin with 12 with the next closest being sophomore middle hitter Aubrey Cazassa with nine.
